  • Behind the Wheel Package - Youth Driver Education

    Students who completed classroom instruction with another organization may participate in 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training with our licensed staff. Participants must register for this course, prior to driving with one of our licensed staff. Participants may choose who they would like to drive with or have one assigned based on availability. Upon registration, please email Ines Chandler, ichandler@isd700.org, to receive your assigned driver's contact information.

  • FIRST Lego League (FLL): 2024/2025 Season

    HERMANTOWN FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (FLL): 2024/2025 SEASON: Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students ages 9-14 engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering – building and programming a LEGO® Education SPIKE Prime robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. As part of the Challenge, teams also design an innovative solution to a real-world problem relevant to the theme. To learn more about the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge, visit their website. The Coaches and team members determine team meeting schedules and level of participation. TEAM LOGISTICS 6 or more students per team (no more than 6 is recommended) 2 parent volunteer coaches per team (coaches must attend practices and competitions) The team attend weekly meetings Attend scrimmages and competitions on weekends based on the team's interest 2024-2025 FIRST LEGO Season Reveal July/August: Kits are ordered and coaches send information to their team members about practice schedules. August 31st: FIRST FLL Challenge is released and the season officially starts! Hermantown Lego League provides guidance, administrative support, and the resources to run an FLL team. Please consider coaching a team. I can only run teams if I have volunteer coaches. Coaching a FIRST LEGO League team is a rewarding experience! As an FLL coach, you can empower students with a sense of accomplishment that comes from knowing they have complete ownership of the solution they create. Team members are responsible for all research, documentation, programming, and building. The coach acts as a facilitator to guide the children and help build a robot, research, and core values. Knowledge about robotics or programming is not required to be a coach. Who: Students ages 9-14 (4th-9th grade) December: Regional tournament is on a Saturday and is held at Hermantown. Teams that perform well advance to sectional, state, and world competitions. We have had Hermantown teams perform at the state level for the past 4 years. If you have questions contact me.   • FTC Robotics Team-Hermantown Middle School

    FIRST® Tech Challenge - Programming Pythons sign-up for the 2024-2025 season. This program is offered for students in grades 7-12. Our team will design, build, program, and compete against other teams from around Minnesota. We will also focus on business and volunteer work in the robotics community and the Hermantown/Duluth community. The team will meet in the middle school lecture hall on Sunday and Tuesday evenings starting Sunday, September 8th, and running through January 2025. The team will compete in two Qualifier events in December/January (location TBD). If the team advances to the State Championship, more dates will be added. There may be some small group meetings after school that will be arranged with the students in each small group. Amelia Magnuson is the lead contact.     Let your child join us for a fun and interactive class where they can learn to bake delicious banana bars. We'll cover measuring ingredients, mixing batter, and baking tips. Your child will have a great time in the kitchen and will leave the class with the skills to become a banana bar pro! Each child will take home a 9x9 inch pan of their self-made banana bars

The classes are focused on highlighting every student's abilities and strengths through careful planning to lead to confidence building that can last a lifetime. We have 5 sessions available: Session 1: Tiny Tots 2:30 - 3:00 PM Session 2 : Hot Shots 3:00 - 3:45 PM Session 3: Beginners 3:45 - 4:30 PM Session 4: Advanced Beginners 4:30 - 5:15 PM Session 5: Ninjas. 5:15 - 6:00 PM Each Child has to bring a one-time $22 cash payment annually for the instructor to get registered in the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) for insurance purposes. Nature's Candy - Learn and practice the methods involved in tapping trees for syrup sap. Identify which trees are needed to make syrup, learn where sap comes from, and the process it goes through to become syrup, and then compare store-bought syrups to syrups made right in the Northland! 3,2,1 Blast-Off Flight - Explore all the awesome ways motion takes flight! Put your knowledge to the test by throwing balls, frisbees, paper airplanes, and more! Then, make a “bottle rocket” to see motion take vertical flight in a big way!

Young artists will use their imagination to create unique masterpieces of their own, including pinch and coil pots, mini bowls, and more. The first session will be for sculpting our pieces and the second session will be use to paint and finish our clay pieces. Please note that all items are air-dry and no potter’s wheels or kilns will be used during these sessions.
